While the first book taught the rudiments of playing the guitar with more emphasis on accompaniment and single line music, the second book introduces more material and pieces for Solo Guitar, including music by the old Masters like Fernando Sor, Ferdinando Carulli, Francisco Tarrega, and Matteo Carcassi.

For futher development on technique, the serious student would be well advised to include in his book list the numerous collections of graded Etudes or studies written by these and other Masters of the guitar. These books are easily available in the music shops.

The student will also be introduced to playing in higher positions, so as to widen his knowledge of the fingerboard. He will learn to play not only scales and chords in the higher positions, but also Solo guitar studies and pieces incorporating these positions.
